27 year old South Africa national team captain and goal keeper Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot dead at his girlfriend's home by unknown gunmen last Sunday October 25th, was laid to rest today November 1st at the Heroes Acre Chesterfield cemetery - an honor that is usually reserved for outstanding figures from the struggle against apartheid.

About 30,000 South Africans gathered at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to bid the goalkeeper farewell. The funeral comes a day after it was announced that a suspect has been arrested and charged for his murder. He is survived by three children. May his soul rest in peace. Amen. Government declares curfew in Adamawa state

APC warns against plan to postpone 2015 general elections

NigerianS will reject any attempt by some public officials to elongate their tenure by postponing February’s election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) warned yesterday.

The APC alleged that some elected public officials are working silently to push the election forward, claiming that the nation is at war.

The party’s spokesman Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement said: ‘’Election is the lifeblood of democracy, the mechanism by which modern representative democracy operates. It is the only way for the citizenry to renew and refresh the governing process so they can get the most benefits out of democracy. Therefore, anyone that tries to sabotage this mechanism is aiming a dagger straight at the heart of democracy,’’ it said.

The APC said the statement credited to Senate President David Mark, that ‘’there is no question of elections, it is not even on the table now. We are in a state of war,” reflects the thinking in government circles, even though the Senate President, having run into a wall of opposition over his unfortunate statement, has tried to step back from the comments.

‘’We in the APC saw this coming, and we have said it at several fora: That the Jonathan Administration has deliberately allowed the insurgency in the North-east, an opposition stronghold, to fester so he can cash in on it to get re-elected. Simply put, the Administration has been playing dirty politics with Boko Haram, at the expense of the lives and property of the citizenry and the well-being of the nation.

‘’However, the Administration is being too clever by half to think that Nigerians will reward it for its failure in its main reason for existence, which is the protection of the welfare and security of the citizens. There is just no way this government will be allowed to profit from its ineptness and its conspiracy to prolong an insurgency that should have ended a long time ago,’’ the party said.

It said the statement by INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega, that the commission has started preparing for elections even in the North-east, represents a ray of hope, but warned the electoral body to remain steadfast and not to cave in to what will be massive pressure from the Jonathan Administration and its gong beaters to scuttle the 2015 elections.

The APC said just like Jega has said, countries like Afghanistan and Iraq successfully held elections even though they are in a state of war, hence there is no reason why Nigeria cannot organize elections because of the insurgency in a part of the country.

‘’We know the Jonathan Administration is mortally afraid to face the electorate, having failed woefully to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. We know many elected officials are also aware that they will be punished by the electorate because they have failed them (the electorate). It is therefore easy for them to queue behind any plot to ensure the 2015 general elections do not hold as planned, so they can get tenure extension.

‘’However, we have got news for these saboteurs: Nigerians have seen through their game and will not allow them to succeed in endangering our democracy. 2015 elections must hold as scheduled. This is not negotiable,’’ the party warned.

DHQ probes report on Shekau’s condition

After much persuasion, Boko Haram has agreed to release the abducted 219 Chibok girls if the Federal Government will simultaneously set free its 18 key commanders.

The two parties have asked their representatives to go back to their leaders on the new swap deal proposal.

Prior to the latest agreement at the talks in Abuja, which was witnessed by some officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), Boko Haram had insisted on a piecemeal release of the girls, with priority given to 30 married Christians among them.

The Federal Government also offered to release six of the 18 sect leaders in detention.

The two sides maintained a parallel stand until they met again in Abuja at a session facilitated by the President, Civil Rights Congress (CRC),  Comrade Shehu Sani.

The sect said if the government attempted to secure the girls by force, it might lead to fatalities.

At the meeting, Boko Haram also maintained that it had the capacity to “engage the Federal Government for 45 years”.

It said the outcome of the talks would determine the end of the insurgency.

Some of those at the talks gave insights into the new dimension to the moves to free the Chibok girls, who were abducted from their hostel on April 15.

It was gathered that the session was attended by ICRC officials.

One of those who attended  said: “The sect shifted its position and agreed to release all the girls instead of 30 Christian married girls it had promised. But Boko Haram said it does not trust the government going by previous experience.

“If the government had respected previous talks, the Chibok girls were initially meant to be off the hook during the Eid-el Fitr festival. Again about two weeks ago, a delegation was already in Maiduguri until the swap deal was bungled.

“Some security agents only advised on the release of six out of the 18 leaders of the sect. They rated the rest 12 as dangerous.

“When the insurgents found out, they backtracked and demanded the release of the 18 leaders. The development paved the way for the latest talks in Abuja which involved the ICRC.”

“By the new arrangement, ICRC will pick up the girls and simultaneously hand over the detained 18 leaders to Boko Haram.

“The government also said it would not free the detained leaders of Boko Haram until all the girls were released.

Asked what was eventually agreed upon, another source at the session said: “We generally agreed that all the parties should go back to their leaders on the agreement reached. The government said no to piecemeal release of the girls and Boko Haram claimed that it will not have any business with the government until all the 18 leaders of the sect are freed.

“After the Eid-el-Kabir festival, the two parties will meet again on the terms to finalise the agreement or part ways.

“Before the meeting rose, Boko Haram representatives warned against the use of force to liberate the girls. It also made it clear that it had the “capacity to take on the Federal Government for the next 45 years.”

Responding to a question on whether the sect will end the insurgency or not, another source said: “The delegation from Boko Haram said the outcome of the latest round of talks will determine whether they should ceasefire or not.”

I was raped by soldier for 5 hours under a tree — Student

ND, student of Mass Communication<br>
Department, Ibarapa Polytechnic, yesterday,<br>
narrated how she was raped under a tree by<br>
one of the security men attached to Operation<br>
Burst set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of<br>
Oyo State to check criminality in the state.</p>
<p dir=ltr>The incident was<br>
said to have<br>
happened in Eruwa<br>
from 10.30 pm on<br>
August 29 this year<br>
while she was<br>
returning after seeing<br>
off a friend.</p>
<p dir=ltr>She said she was<br>
raped repeatedly for<br>
five hours before she<br>
was let off the hook<br>
by the rapist soldier.</p>
<p dir=ltr>How it happened<br>
According to her, the soldier allegedly ordered<br>
her to climb the motorcycle while threatening<br>
to stab her with a knife.</p>
<p dir=ltr>She said: “It happened on Friday, August 29,<br>
2014. I was coming back to my room after<br>
seeing off a friend. He accused me of being a<br>
cultist for moving about around that time, but<br>
I denied it. He then ordered me to climb his<br>
motorcycle, but I pleaded with him that he<br>
should let me go.</p>
<p dir=ltr>“He removed a knife and said that he would<br>
stab me if I refused to obey him. So scared, I<br>
climbed the Okada and he took me to the<br>
Operation Burst office in Eruwa.<br>
“When we got there, he forcefully led me to a<br>
dark area under a tree and ordered me to<br>
remove my dress to enable him see if I had<br>
tattoos on my body.</p>
<p dir=ltr>“I told him I did not have tattoos and that he<br>
should let me go. He then removed the knife<br>
again and said that he would slaughter me<br>
like a ram if I failed to ‘cooperate’ and that I<br>
would be buried like many other girls who had<br>
failed to cooperate in the past, and nobody<br>
would trace my death to him.</p>
<p dir=ltr>“Sensing danger, I removed my clothes. He<br>
ordered me to lie down under the tree and had<br>
sex with me several times while I was crying.</p>
<p dir=ltr>“He raped me till 3.30 am and I complained of<br>
catching cold. He entered into the office and<br>
brought out a bottle of beer. He gave it to me<br>
to hold for him.</p>
<p dir=ltr>“Later he said he was going to bring a blanket<br>
for me to cover my body. I waited for about 30<br>
minutes, but when he did not return, I dressed<br>
up and ran away.”</p>
<p dir=ltr>Case reported at Police station<br>
The victim’s counsel, Mr. Adeosun, confirmed<br>
her story, saying: “In the morning of Saturday,<br>
August 30, 2014, the victim called her parents<br>
on the telephone and told them what<br>
happened. It was the parents that came to<br>
brief our office. We thereafter advised that the<br>
victim should report to the Police Station at<br>
Eruwa, which she did.”</p>
<p dir=ltr>When the matter was reported to the security<br>
outfit, the girl identified the rapist among<br>
other security operatives paraded before her.</p>
<p dir=ltr>To worsen her ordeal, the Eruwa General<br>
Hospital where she went for test did not help<br>
matter.</p>
<p dir=ltr>According to her, on arrival in the hospital,<br>
the doctor she met told her to buy hand<br>
gloves which she did.</p>
<p dir=ltr>She said: “The doctor told me to lie down and<br>
use his phone torchlight to examine my<br>
private part and wrote a report that although<br>
there was no trace of semen, the private part<br>
had been tampered with.”</p>
<p dir=ltr>It was gathered that the doctor claimed he<br>
could not carry out test on the inner part of<br>
the vagina because the hospital did not have<br>
the facilities to carry out such test.<br>
The victim’s lawyer said a soldier called him<br>
at 8.25 pm on Sunday informing him that the<br>
Army had commenced court martial trial on<br>
the indicted soldier, but that the student must<br>
appear to testify.<br>
Suspect recommended for disciplinary<br>
measure<br>
Responding, Special Adviser to the Governor<br>
on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, quoted the<br>
security outfit as saying it had recommended<br>
the suspect for disciplinary measure for<br>
abandoning his duty post.<br>
In a statement issued by the outfit’s Second in<br>
Command, CSP Elijah Bawa, “immediately the<br>
outfit was informed of the allegation of rape<br>
against the said soldier, he dispatched an<br>
investigation team to Eruwa.<br>
“The team met with the Divisional Police<br>
Officer for the Eruwa Division, DSP Kayode<br>
Adigun who disclosed that the 23-year old<br>
Mass Communication student of the school<br>
lodged a complaint with the command that<br>
she had been raped by the soldier who was<br>
also an operative of the anti-crime outfit.<br>
“The outfit’s Second in Command and the DPO<br>
took the complainant to the Eruwa General<br>
Hospital for medical examination, the result of<br>
which they said proved negative.<br>
“The soldier will, however, be charged for<br>
abandoning his duty post in the night without<br>
permission against standing instructions in<br>
the Operation Burst’s code of conduct,” he<br>
said.</p>

The news came through the Rivers state
Commissioner of Health, Dr Sampson Parker,
who disclosed it today, Monday 8, that the
patient after receiving treatment tested
negative.

“I am cheerful today because we have
successfully treated an Ebola patient
from our centre. She was positive and
treated. She is now negative and
discharged to the community.”
Dr Parker, who initially refused to disclose
the identity of the discharged patient later
told newsmen who pressurized him that she
was the sister of late Dr. Iyke Enemuo.

“The sister of the late doctor is well and
has been discharged. We should
celebrate her. She nursed her brother
when he was down. She is one person
you can admit into your house now
because she is fine. She will not give
you Ebola. She is clear, she is immune
and she cant have Ebola”, he said.

Meanwhile, he also disclosed that an 18-
month-old baby had been admitted for
observation though the baby had not yet
tested positive to the virus.
“We have another admission, an infant,
18 months, is not yet tested”, he said.

According to the Health Commissioner, the
Health Ministry would successfully establish
contact with the 479 persons on its list for
surveillance before the day runs out, adding
that 94 percent of them had already been
traced.

He expressed the hope that Ebola
should be a thing of the past by the end
of next week.“We need this week and
next week to watch. “, he said.
He further appealed to the people not to see
Ebola as a death sentence, saying it could be
treated if detected early.

BREAKING: Former President Obasanjo's Son Killed By Boko Haram

Boko Haram militants attacked a platoon led
by the son of former Nigerian President
Olusegun Obasanjo, shooting him today.

According to Sahara Reporters , he sustained
serious injuries to his legs and was being
transported to the hospital at the time of this
report.

Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer, was a
Lieutenant Colonel at the 3rd Division in Jos,
Plateau State.

He and his platoon were engaged with Boko
Haram militants at Baza, which is the village
of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of
the 3rd division when the incident took
place. The Lieutenant Agwu of the 234
battalion, GOC of the 3rd Division, Major Gen
JS Zaruwa and Colonel Victor Ebhaleme who
serves as the Brigade Commander of the
23rd Army brigade in Yola were all together
advancing towards Michika when Boko
Haram fighters unleashed the deadly attack
on the soldiers.

24 soldiers in the platoon were reportedly
killed by the militants.
Apart from the dead soldiers, the army also
lost an armored tank to the militants. As a
result of the attack, the army has moved
sensitive weapons from mubi to the Brigade
headquarters in Yola leaving mubi vulnerable
to attack. The town of Mubi has practically
been deserted following the closure of
schools and massive retreat of soldiers from
the city.

The former president is currently traveling in
Singapore according to family sources.

Dogs Eating Corpses Of Ebola Victims In Liberia! [Photo]

Dogs are digging up the corpses
of Ebola victims buried in
shallow graves in Liberia and
eating them in the street,
villagers have claimed.

Furious residents of Johnsonville
Township, outside capital
Monrovia, raised the alarm after
packs of wild dogs were spotted
digging up corpses from a
specially-designated ‘Ebola
graveyard’, dragging them into
the open and feeding on their
flesh.

The grisly scenes came three
weeks after government health
officials – desperate to stem the
country’s rising infection rate –
hurriedly buried the bodies
despite a heated standoff with
villagers who refused to give
their permission to use the land.
But rather than resolve the
dispute, Liberia’s Ministry of
Health burial team dug the
graves at night to avoid further
confrontation, making the
infected bodies easy targets for
scavengers, villagers say.
While the dogs are unlikely to
grow sick from the virus, there
is a strong chance they could
still pass it on to humans, Dr.
Stephen Korsman of the
University of Cape Town’s
medical virology division said.

Man organizes friends from Delta state to rob his uncle in Lagos

24-year-old Emmanuel Erherhie, a member of a 6-man robbery gang that was recently apprehended by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja in Lagos has confessed to arranging with his friends to carry out a robbery attack on his own uncle who lives in Festac Town, Lagos.

Emmanuel, who was paraded alongside his other gang members, Joseph Ovologbarho, Innocent Ibe, Victor Ezenwa, Oyoma Akbojiyouwi and James Ukerume, said he arranged for his Uncle to be robbed at his festac home after his uncle kicked him out of his house when he returned from Prison for damaging someone's car. Emmanuel explains

“I brought three of my friends from Delta State to rob my uncle in Lagos. But the robbery operation failed as we were arrested. I lived with him for about four months. He drove me out of his house after I had an accident with his car and the vehicle got damaged beyond repair. I hit another car which was also badly damaged so, the owner of the car I hit arrested me that night. When I called my uncle, he said he had no hand in that. Nobody came to bail me. The case was charged to court and eventually I was sent to prison for six months. But for the help of my elder brother, Godwin Erherhie who assisted to secure my release, I would still be in prison. When I eventually got released from Kirikiri prison, I came back to my brother’s house; he chased me out, saying that I was no longer welcomed in his house,and he didn’t even allow me to pick my belongings. I was wasting away, jobless and roaming the streets and my brother refused to help. I left Lagos out of frustration to Delta State. While I was in Delta State, I met my childhood friend Joseph, and told him to help me organise people for the robbery operation. I stayed two months there strategising and perfecting plans to rob my uncle. If we had succeeded in the operation, I would have used the money to process travel documents to travel to Austria. A friend of mine who I met when I was an apprentice had promised to help me process documents if I had the money. When I was living with my uncle, I worked as a sales boy in his furniture company. He wasn’t paying me; he only gave me pocket money" he said

A member of the gang, 22 year old Joseph Ovologbarho who claims to be  a plumber when interrogated said

"I am a plumber from Delta State. Some months ago, Emmanuel came to my house in Delta and said I should assist him with people to rob his uncle in Lagos. So I arranged with two of my friends, Innocent Ibe and Victor Ezenwa who also participated in the operation. We got the guns from Oyoma Akbojiyouwi, when I went to purchase bullets from him. The gun I am holding is for my grandfather, he is the eldest man in my community so, he uses the gun for protection. I got involved in the operation because Emmanuel promised to give me large amount of money after the operation. I never knew he went to prison. We came to Lagos in the month of July and we carried out the operation on July 18, 2014. These local guns were found in his house when we took SARS operatives to the place.”

Another member Victor Ezenwa said

"I am from Imo state, I am a professional painter, and my friend brought us to Lagos to rob his uncle. He paid our transport from Delta State and when we came, he lodged us in a hotel in Volks along Badagry express way. We spent a day in the hotel before we went for the operation. He told me that his uncle is very wealthy and that he keeps a lot of cash, including foreign notes in the house. He promised to give me a lot of cash to start up my business. That was why I agreed to participate in the operation. I regret participating in this operation. I will never rob in my life again. “

Innocent Ibe said

"I am from Imo State, but I reside in Delta State. My friend Joseph brought me into this operation; they informed me that his uncle had a lot of foreign currency kept in his house. He told me that we are not using gun, that all we needed to do was to follow him to the house. Emmanuel promised to reward us handsomely after the operation but unfortunately we were arrested.”

Oyoma Akbojiyouwi said

"I am the youth leader in my community in Delta State and we use these locally made guns for security purposes. When we arrest suspects, we hand them over to the vigilante group and they will then hand them over to the police. Some months back, Joseph, a member of the vigilante came to me with their vehicle to get bullets to go on patrol. So, I gave him and he went away. Last week, SARS operatives came to my father’s house in Delta State and arrested me for selling bullets to Joseph. According to police sources, they brought a pump action for the robbery operation in Lagos. We got to my uncle’s house at about 7pm for the operation. Unfortunately, innocent was caught while we were attempting to break into the building, the rest of us fled but were later arrested. Emmanuel and the other members escaped back to Delta State but were traced and arrested" he said

According to reports by Tribune, on April 10th this year, Kingsley drove his boss, Abosede Olubiyi, in her newly acquired Infinity FX 35 SUV to an appointment in Yaba, Lagos. When they got to their destination, the woman told Kingsley to find a place to park the car as there was no parking space in front of the building they were going to. The lady came down from the car and went for her appointment and that was the last time she saw Kingsley and her car.

The matter was immediately reported to the Lagos State Police command. In the course of their investigation, the police arrested a friend of Kingsley who they used as a bait to get him out of his hideout. The friend cooperated with the police and Nwabueze was traced to Imo State.

After some persuasion from his friend who lied to him that he had a very lucrative business for him, Kingsley appeared in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested.

Kingsley has since confessed to stealing his boss's car, saying that he had already put it up for sale at an Autoshop in Aba, Abia state.

Pres. Jonathan condemns stigmatization of Nigerians over Ebola

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Wednesday in Abuja condemned the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries over recent cases of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

Speaking at a meeting with Mr. David Navarro, a Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, President Jonathan particularly denounced discriminatory actions such as that which forced Nigeria’s team to the Youth Olympics in China to abandon its participation.

Noting that there was no justification for such stigmatization of Nigerians since the Ebola Virus Disease had been effectively  contained in the country and never attained epidemic levels, the President called for the cessation of discriminatory actions against Nigerians over the virus and urged the UN Secretary General, Mr.  Ban Ki Moon  to support the call.

Responding to the Secretary General’s commendation of Nigeria’s management of the threat of Ebola, President Jonathan praised the Federal Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Government and all Nigerians for the success achieved so far in containing the virus and avoiding a national epidemic.

“All hands have been on deck to contain the virus here. I commend my team and the Lagos State Government. We have been able to set politics aside and work in unison to deal with a national threat.

“All other Nigerians have played a part too by complying with the directives and advice we have issued to stop the virus from spreading any further. The success we have had is a testimony to what we can achieve as people if we set aside our differences and work together,” he told Mr. Navarro.

The President assured the Special Envoy that in spite of the seeming  success of  its containment measures, the Federal Government and its agencies will remain vigilant to guard against further cases of Ebola in the country.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and we will also support other affected African countries as much as we can because we cannot be completely safe from the virus as long as it continues to ravage some countries in our sub-region and continent. We will continue to work with the international community to curb the outbreak in other countries,” President Jonathan pledged.

Mr. Navarro who  had visited Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the countries worst hit by Ebola before coming to Nigeria, told the President that he had come, on the instruction of the UN Secretary-General, to applaud Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus.

“The Secretary-General asked me to come here too, not because you have an Ebola problem, but because you have tackled it in an exemplary fashion.

“Your personal leadership on the matter has been key. There may still be some work to be done before the virus is completely cleared out from here, but other countries can learn from your fine example,” Mr. Navarro told the President.
